Many Christians do not give importance to study Christian doctrines. Thury think that the study Some of those who study doctrines in the seminaries learn about the doctrines, add of the doctrines is only for those who want to become pastors. but only a few among them put them into practice. Some of them do not trach doctrines in their ministry.
The study of doctrines without responding to the demands of Christian doctrine will be merely an intellectual exercise imparting more knowledge of the doctrines. So it is important that all those who study the doctrines must respond to them in the right way. The Bible teaches that we must respond to the doctrines in the following ways.
1. Receive and Hold Fast to the Doctrines
The right understanding of the doctrines helps us to be strong in the Lord. So the Bible teaches that we should receive the doctrines and put them into practice. “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you unless you believed in vain” (1) Cor. 15:1, 2).
2. Obey from the Heart
Paul wrote to the Romans that they obeyed the doctrines that they received from others. “But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered” (Rom. 6:17).
3. Hold Fast in Faith
Paul also instructed believers to hold fast to the sound doctrine that they received to teach others and respond rightly to those who do not accept the truth. “Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict (Titus 1.9, 2 Tim. 1:13)
4. Adorn (follow) the Doctrines
“Exhort servants to be obedient to their own masters… that they may adorn their doctrine of God our Savior in all things” (Titus 2:9, 10).
5. Propagate the Doctrines
“Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” (Acts 5:28)
6. Abide in the Doctrines
“Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son” (2 John 9).
7. Rightly Divide the Doctrines
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Tim, 2:15).
8. Be Nourished in the Good Doctrine
“If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed” (1 Tim. 4:6).
9. Give Attention to Doctrine
“Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” (1 Tim. 4:13).
10. Contend for the Doctrine
“Contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints”
(Jude 3).
